Restorative yoga
What is Restorative Yoga?
It is a gentle practice that helps provide physical and mental balance to cope with stress and anxiety through the use of various props which help you to stay in the posture longer, giving you time to benefit from the passive stretch.
Being supported during these postures has a restorative effect. It allows you to rejuvenate the body by encouraging a state of relaxation which in turn allows healing to happen.
This switches on the parasympathetic nervous system which takes you from the stressful “fight or flight response” to a more manageable “rest and restore” state of mind and body.
Who should do Restorative yoga?
It’s for anyone who is recovering from trauma, surgery, cancer treatment, fatigue, sleep disorder, emotional stress, depression and anxiety or perhaps from a major life changing event.
Even if you are just feeling a little under the weather and need some time for yourself you would benefit from this practice.
What are the benefits?
