What you will learn:
Day 1: The Head, the Neck, and Shoulder Girdle
A review of the structures and functions of the head, including the face, temporomandibular joint, neck and shoulder muscles, and the pathologies often seen in clients, including tension headaches, TMJ Dysfunction, jaw pain and neuromuscular pain in the neck and shoulders.
There will be a review of chronic vs. acute pain, strains, sprains, and factors that contribute to pain and dysfunction.
We will also review the difference in trigger points and tender points, and what current pain science says about them.
Learn massage techniques to help relieve pain and restore movement.
Day 2: The Back, Glutes, and Upper Thigh Muscles
A review of the structures and functions of the spinal column, back muscles, and thigh muscles and the pathologies associated with them.
Learn assessment techniques and massage sequences for treating back pain, scoliosis, sciatica, hamstring and quad strain, and other pain-causing conditions.
You will also learn techniques for working the psoas—a muscle often involved in back pain, but only palpable through the abdomen.
Day 3: The Extremities
A review of the structures and functions of the upper and lower extremities and the pathologies associated with them.
Learn assessment techniques and massage sequences for treating carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, and tennis elbow in the upper extremities, as well as knee dysfunction, ITB syndrome, plantar fasciitis and other pain-causing conditions.
The class will culminate with a full body massage, followed by a posture analysis to note changes that occurred over the course of the 3 days.
Massage techniques in this class will include myofascial work, muscle stripping, intraoral work, and active and passive stretching.

Laura Allen has been a massage therapist for over 23 years. She is the President of Sales & Marketing for CryoDerm, the author of seven textbooks for massage therapists, a frequent contributor to trade journals, a past winner of the professional case report contest sponsored by the Massage Therapy Foundation, and a member of the Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.
Course Tutor:
Gráinne Kennedy teaches the OBUS diplomas in Massage and Reflexology and a vast range of our CPD courses. Trained since 2016, her qualifications include; ITEC Diploma in Holistic Massage, Diploma in Reflexology and Sports Massage Level 4.
